Has anyone heard or played beta release of RF Online? Interested to hear what you think of it. Sounds interesting, happen to see it on one of the gamer sites and thought I would ask. http://www.codemasters.com/rfonline/news.php

I have a beta key, but really havent tried the game. The game is mostly pvp with some PVE for window dressing.

There is a fairly detailed beta review at:

http://www.gamergod.com/article.php?art ... gory_id=54

It doesn't sound too compelling... sort of a "maybe try it if there wasn't EQ2, or WoW, or EQ, or..."

I think Dungeons and Dragons Online will be the most interesting new MMORPG coming out this year, just because it is so different than most other ones currently out there. I'll be curious to see how long it can maintain player interest since it so completely depends on consuming content for advancement... no random hunting of monsters, no crafting, etc.

Yeah prob be another mmorpg game that tanks lol, think it was the hot futuristic-elf chicks that interested me. As for D&D online, I got into beta-stress test and found it lacking, specially having to zone into everything (dungns, tavers, cities, etc..). Fighting system is so much superior in wow as are the the vibrant colors.

Hmm, thats interesting because you actually have to click to fight, shield or bash. I think there is a auto fight but supposily you do better if you control the actual swing. I have heard that tanks can form a "shield wall" and let the casters AoE from behind them to kill alot of the mobs. There is also flanking moves that will increase your chance to strike. There is PC, NPC collision system in place so you can form lines or walls, block the door, etc. I knd of picture a fight like a dance, NPC and PC trying to manuever around their opponent in real time.

Since you only get exp from finishing the quest, you really dont have to kill anything if you can get away with it (unless the quest is to kill boss mob). The gameplay is more about resource management and saving that spell for when its really needed. I understand that you may be fighting injured and without all your spells at any given time. That it is important to mem the right spells depending on your group makeup. Since everyone gets the same exp for finishing whether it is solo or 6 man (everyone gets the same exp), it is suppose to nuture grouping.

Tamryl, if you get on a server first, let me know which one so we can try it together.

Skil,

I have not picked up D&D Online yet - if I do I'll drop you a line and post on the message board. I think we are the only two who are even considering it; most of my friends are either happy with the games they are currently in (WoW, CoH, EQ2) or aren't MMORPG fans.

If it is something you want to try I'll pick up the game and give it a shot. :-)
