Is anyone playing Star Wars Galaxies? This is yet another game people from work are playing. Considering what I've heard about it, it seems like alot of combat is jacked up & alot of the quests aren't worth doing.
However, I've heard great things about the 'jump to space' or whatever - it seems like 1 of the main reasons to play. That & the 'war'... i.e. being a rebel or an imperial & PVPing.
If nobody is playing, has anybody heard anything good about it?

I have messed around with it a little courtesy of the Station All-Access account. I have some friends that really like it, but it didn't grab me.
The people I know playing it are both big Star Wars fans and role-players. They really like being part of the SW universe; both are members of a player association (guild) run like a criminal syndicate. They role-play in game and on their message boards, have in-game events, etc.
The high point (IMO) is the space combat - it is a lot like the old X-Wing/TIE Fighter games and a lot of fun if you like space flight sims. There are also like a million dance moves you can emote, so if you like virtual booty shaking you will be in heaven.
The down sides for me were:
* No jumping. I mean, none at all. If you come up against a mighty 2-foot high wall, better find a way around because you aren't getting over it.
* The economy is completely player-based. Some folks love this I guess, but if you want to buy anything, it has to be from a player.
* No usable loot. If you just managed to take down some rifle-weilding Tusken Raiders don't expect to actually loot a rifle (or flashlight, or medkit, or...). You might get parts which you can sell or trade to crafters in return for items. Previously there weren't even loot items worth cash to sell to NPCs, since there were no NPCs that would buy things. I think this has changed and you can get sellable for cash stuff as loot.
Anyhow, I didn't think it was a bad game, and I know folks that really love it. It is probably worth a try, I think they have a free trial deal like most of the other MMORPGs out there.
